Tessa Brown:  Doula, Massage Therapist, Owner

Tessa has been attending births for 13 years.  She began her passion for birthing, in 1997, by participating in a program at Whidbey General Hospital Labor and Delivery unit.  The program allowed her to actively attend and participate in 140 births over the course of 3 years, as an internship/volunteer program to receive highschool credits.  During those years, she became completely obsessed with birth, and devoted ALL of her time to the program, asking to be called on weekends, middle of the night, and during school hours if a birth began.

This passion for birth simply continued and grew stronger after the birth of her own child in 2003, which ended up to be an interventive hospital birth.  After experiencing birth first hand, and feeling somewhat let down, she knew there had to be a more gentle, and holistic way to help women birth their babies!  This is when she discovered the incredible work as a doula, but didnt even know how to begin.

As a result of her passion she simply attended any birth of friends or acquaintences that she could over the course of the next 5 years.  During this time she decided to become a massage therapist so that when it came time to officially train for being a "doula" she could provide women also, with professional level massage during pregnancy and birth.

Finally, after practicing massage therapy for 6 years, and owning a massage practice for 3,  she decided to take the plunge and begin the official training process for becoming a doula.  In November 2009, she completed her training at Bastyr University for Labor Support and Doulas.  She opened her second business,  "Birth Dance Doulas, In January 2010.

Since then she has attended many births, and is completely immersed in her life as an encouragement to women to achieve the births they know they can have, whether it be in a hospital, birth center or at home.

August 21 2010 Tessa welcomed her 2nd baby, Greysen, into the world.  She herself had a complicated pregnancy, and becasue of this wasnt able to birth at home as she had planned, however, with the support of an incredible birthing team, she had a gorgeous, peaceful, "homebirth" in the hospital.

Tessas most profound moments as a doula, besides being involved in the most incredible moments of her client's lives, was to meet in person, both Penny Simkin, and Ina May Gaskin.

Birth Dance Doulas serves Snohomish and King CO, WA, however, occasionally exceptions are made if you live outside our service area.  If its too far for us, we will help to find you a doula in your area.
